A maker of bows for hunting is called a "bowyer"; a maker of arrows is called a "fletcher."  Craftspersons -- mostly male -- often create both bows and arrows because of their love and respect for the ancient traditions of archery and hunting.

Traditional "longbows" are often made from a single piece of wood, shaped using hand tools such as drawknives and rasps.
